Half a century since the first shipment left the Beremend Cement Plant

Duna-Dráva Cement Kft. (DDC) has celebrated many significant anniversaries in its history. In 2022, our company reached another milestone, as it was exactly 50 years since the first cement shipment left the new Beremend Cement Plant.

Cement production in Beremend has a long history, dating back to the 1900s, when a German prince opened a new, modern lime plant in Beremend in 1909, followed by the cement plant a year later.

Then, after the two world wars, the development of the nationalised plant was started from the 1950s, and by 1972 the new Beremend Cement Plant was built.

Excellent raw material for half a century

Thanks to the excellent environmental conditions and the high quality of the locally available raw material, cement from Beremend has long been a key product on the market, and thus our company contributes significantly to the economic development of the region.

Innovation and modernisation

Cement production is constantly changing and DDC contributes to this constant change with innovative Industry 4.0 solutions. Our goal is to create an environmentally friendly cement production and a circular economy, therefore environmental awareness and energy efficient management are integrated in all our activities.

In the early 2000s, as part of a complex modernisation programme, alternative fuels to fossil fuels were brought to the fore, and thanks to the use of these and the modern, innovative clinker kiln that was installed, the Beremend Cement Plant became one of the most modern cement plants in Europe.

Social responsibility for decades

DDC is committed to protecting natural assets, supporting local communities and the younger generation. It has always been important for us to be a good steward of the region's natural resources and support the communities around our sites. The majority of our plant workers live in local settlements, reinforcing DDC's commitment to supporting local communities.
