A giant concrete statue was built with the contribution of DDC in Pákozd to commemorate the battle fought there. The statue was unveiled on the 29th of September 2017.

The erection was carried out in several phases, since first the foundation had to be built, which was placed on the highest point of a hill. This foundation was a 90 cm high octagonal reinforced concrete surface with a 8,70 x 8,70 overall size. It needed approximately 40 m3 concrete, which was worked in with a concrete pump. During construction special attention had to be paid for the compilation of the concrete mixture, since the statue has to withstand the exposure to the changing weather conditions. The concreting of it was done in 6 stages, with pumix, a mixer truck fitted with a concrete pump, which enables the vehicle to pump as well as transport the concrete to the site. The statue itself needed 30 m3 m3 C30/37-XC4-XF3-8/F5 class self-compacting concrete.

During the concreting works it was an exciting task to mould the several shapes, forms and curves of the statue. The size of the casts were very varied, from 90 cm to 1,47 meters, while concerning their weight, one or two reached even 14 tons. Concreting was done daily, or in every second day, depending on the duration of the assembly tasks. Therefore the statue was erected in at least 7, but not more than 13 days, with the utilization of approximately 30 m3 of concrete.

The creation of a concrete statue – especially in this scale – needs unique professional expertises from more than one aspect. The most careful attention had to be paid to the increasingly thinning structure of the silt of the cap. During moulding this shape had to be filled fully, which limited the choice for grain structure of the additive. For this reason also the tendency of the concrete to bleed water had to be eliminated, in order to prevent a fine layer to be formed, which would highlight the joints. Furthermore a method had to be devised for the artists to chisel, carve and add to the statue without damaging it. The tasks set high concrete technology requirements for the builders, however, this is natural when dealing with a Guiness record attempt, as they achieved something completely unique in the world. The 12-meter high concrete soldier commemorates the Battle of Pákozd in an imposing and worthy fashion.

During the project Mapei Kft. was responsible for the supervision of chemicals and consistency, while the contractor was Öko 2002 Kft.
