HUF 7 billion modernization at the Vác Cement Plant

Our company has taken another step towards achieving our sustainability goals. The recently implemented environmental enterprise was ceremonially unveiled at the Vác Cement Plant. The project will also improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the region.

Duna-Dráva Cement Kft. takes environmentally conscious operation during its everyday activities into the highest consideration. The most important directions of our strategy are based on our parent company, HeidelbergCement Group’s sustainability goals set for 2030, such as the reduction of ecological footprint or the promotion of circular economy. One of the key events of the period between 2016 and 2018 was the HUF 7 billion project, which enabled us to continue our manufacturing operation in even more state-of-the-art conditions than before. The emphasis, here as well, is on the protection of the environment.

Due to the modernization the dust emission of the plant has already decreased to a minimal level, while its capacity to produce clinker and its operational safety has increased. All these factors contribute to sustainable cement production.

The main goal of the modernization was the replacement of the previously used electro filter with a so-called bag filter, since the filter is responsible for the dedusting of the furnaces. The new system benefits from its capability to prevent the leaking of dust even in case of malfunction or power outage. This means that we were able to further minimize the already very low-level of dust emission. We’ve been using this technology in our Beremend Cement Plant for almost a decade now, and experience says that we will be able to contribute to the protection of the environment in a similar way in Vác as we do in Beremend.

Attila Fördős, the Mayor of Vác, and János Szarkándi, the president-CEO of Duna-Dráva Cement Kft. unveiled the modernized cement plant together at the opening ceremony held on the 18th of May. Participants of the event, which included a factory visit, had a chance to get to know the background, the process and the results of this environmental enterprise.
