New CSR program launched by DDC

Supporting local communities and establishing sustainable operation have always been priority topics with Duna-Dráva Cement Kft (Hungary). Based on these principles they expanded their corporate social responsibility project entitled DDC Green City Program.

As an outstanding economic operator of the area, Duna-Dráva Cement Kft. has always considered it important to assume the role of an “honest caretaker” and protect the region’s natural resources and support its surrounding local communities. In order to create a more liveable environment, the company has launched the DDC Green City Program, and subsequently integrated it to its three-pillar corporate social responsibility strategy.

The two-day (5-6 April) DDC Green City Program offered activities such as planting, spatial planning, decorating and garbage collection to volunteer students from Vác and the employees of DDC at the Deákvár KRESZ Park and water catchment area.

Within the framework of the DDC Green City Program the company also held the first round of the Green Alternative Competition on 5 April, where the participating teams were met with exciting challenges requiring creativity and resourcefulness. Over the course of the first round the teams that registered to compete filled out a questionnaire about the cement plant, environmental protection and the town of Vác, after which they were invited to plant trees and flowers, and the event concluded with the creation of a land art installation using the twigs and leaves scattered over the area. The six most successful teams competed in the final on 26 April at the Vác Cement Plant.

The celebrity guest of the event was singer Peti Puskás, who is, just like DDC, deeply committed to the protection of the environment. The influencer took part in all of the tasks and was eager to support the contestants of the Green Alternative Contest.

On 5 April more than 200 children from the kindergartens and schools of Vác arrived to offer their youthful energy to join DDC in decorating the area of the Deákvár KRESZ Park together.

On the next day of the event series, 6 April, employees of the company and their relatives continued the work. As a result of the determination of the participants the water catchment area has gotten rid of overgrown vegetation and instead received hundreds of lavender plants.

It is important to Duna-Dráva Cement Kft. to continue to protect the planted trees and flowers as time goes by, therefore professional gardeners and DDC employees will make sure that the area is always irrigated and weeded properly.
