DDC awarded once again at the annual Factory of the Year competition!

Beremend cement plant is winner of the prestigious “Factory of the Year” award in the category Industry 4.0.

In 2019, GyártásTrend magazine and PPH media held the fifth edition of a competition to recognise the best production sites of small and medium-sized enterprises in Hungary.
The “Factory of the Year” competition started in November 2019 with contestants submitting their application forms based on key figures. The final decision about which plants were accepted into the running was made by a professional jury after a site visit and an internal audit. Almost 60 contestants entered in 9 categories. On 10 August 2020, the award ceremony of the 2019 Factory of the Year competition took place online, due to COVID-19. HeidelbergCement’s joint venture Duna-Dráva Cement Kft. (DDC) already participated in the Factory of the Year competition in 2018 and took first prize in the category “employee satisfaction”. In 2020, the jury awarded the title in the category “Industry 4.0” to the company’s Beremend cement plant.

Industry 4.0 in the cement industry

This year, DDC celebrates the 110th anniversary of cement production at Beremend. For more than a century, cement production at the Beremend plant has been characterised by continuous innovation as well as the use of world-class technologies, which was confirmed this year by winning the prestigious Factory of the Year award.

Right now, digitalisation is completely transforming the way industrial companies operate. Slowly but surely, Industry 4.0 is also gaining ground in the domestic markets of Hungary.

In modern cement production, innovative technologies are used throughout the process, starting with the extraction of limestone and clay, through clinker production, to the supply of cement in bulk form or bags to the Hungarian market.

As a result of recent modernisation measures, automation has completely transformed the production processes of DDC’s cement plants in Beremend and Vác. Many activities are now fully automated.
